Pantene Gold Series First Impression

I was lucky enough to be sent some free goodies from Pantene by Influenster. The new Pantene Gold Series hair care line is dedicated to African American hair.

I tested out these products recently so I wanted to give my first impression opinion to you all. When using these products I did not deep condition or do a L.O.C method because I wanted to see how the products performed on their own.

The Pantene Gold Series does include more products than what I will mention, so I will just go over the products that were sent to me.

*All product perks: moisture, smell, and slip.*

First things first, the shampoo. Initially I was pretty nervous when I seen that the shampoo did contain sulfate and it lathered but once I used it I was amazed. Sulfate is not good on the hair but this shampoo has a light lather and was still moisturizing. After rinsing, my hair felt clean and soft.

Second, the conditioner was one of my favorite things from the products because of its amazing slip and how easy I was able to detangle my hair. The conditioner did not contain any sulfate so it was extra rich in moisture. I also noticed that I had less hair shedding when I detangled my hair. I did have to go into the conditioner more to cover as much of my hair as I wanted but it was worth it. I also used this baby as a leave in when I applied the butter creme.

Lastly, the butter creme was amazing because it coated my hair well and sunk into my hair nicely. I noticed that my hair did not drip as much as it normally does when I apply a product, and I’m sure that’s because my hair was absorbing the butter creme well.

I used the butter creme in combination with the conditioner as a leave in to do four braid outs over night. Once I woke up I seperated the braid outs, shook my hair, and picked it out a little to add definition. My curls were soft and manageable than ever before. I also noticed that the curls were more defined and I had less frizz with my front curls compared to how they usually be.

Con: I would like Pantene to eventually make larger sizes of the shampoo & conditioner because I can see myself using up the products within a month or less.

Overall I love the products and I feel that they do cater to black hair and Pantene did an amazing job with celebrating our culture with this line. I look forward to trying out the rest of the collection and repurchasing these pieces in the future.

Have you all tried out this line? If so, how did you like it, let me know in the comments. Talk to you all in my next post, muah!

Ole Henriksen Skincare Review

The key to beautiful makeup is healthy skin. Healthy skin, to me, is one that is clean. I don’t believe anyone has “perfect skin” because anyone’s skin can fall under the categories of dry, sinsitive , acne prone , oily, or combination. Even if you have “normal” skin you still may have problems in one of the areas mentioned.

Personally I deal with oilyness when I wear makeup, and for a while now I have researched ways in helping reduce the amount of oily I produce. Based on my research I found that it’s great to tone the skin in order to get rid of pore buildup that your face wash did not get, and it’s good to moisturize after toning, because although your trying to reduce oil buildup you do not want your skin too dry.

With that being said I’m using a toner that works well but could be better, and I have yet to find a good moisturizer for oily skin.

Influenster was kind enough to send me a complimentary VoxBox including three new skincare products from Ole Henriksen. The products cater to oily skin and it’s a three step system. The box included a face wash, toner, and moisturizer. All products have a refreshing smell because their infused with Eukalyptus and Peppermint.

Oil Control Cleanser

The cleanser comes in two sizes a 2 oz. / 60ml ($10) and a 5 oz. / 147 ml ($25) . This  is a  foam cleanser which is preferred if you have oily skin because they are typically drying. It’s also great to have because it requires less product use which in turn results in your product lasting longer. I personally like the cleanser because I feel refreshed after using it and although it’s a foam cleanser my face is not completely dried out, and my face is still left moisturizer without the oily feeling. My skin also feels and looks cleaner compared to when I was using my previous cleanser (Mario Budescu- more of a gel cleanser).

Balancing Oil Control Toner

This toner only comes in one size which is a 6.5 oz./ 193ml that retails for $26 . This is a decent size in that you won’t need a lot of toner every time you reach for it. This toner makes my face feel firm and matte. After using the face wash I do not feel completely matte, so the toner cleanses the pores more and gets rid of any buildup that the face wash did not get and really tones my face . Although I feel more matte after using the toner it still does not dry out my skin too much.

Counter Balance Oil Hydrator

The Hydrator comes only in a 1.7 oz/ 50ml retailing for $34. This moisturizer helps bring the moisture back into my skin after cleansing and toning without feeling too cakey or oily. It dries quickly and makes my face feel smooth and soft for the day/night. With this, only a small amount is needed for the entire face. I use about 1-2 pumps and it works well for me.

After using all three steps in this system I can really say that my skin has improved. I usually do all three steps at night, and tone and hydrate in the morning before applying makeup and I’m good to go. I have made it through an entire day without feeling as oily as I normally feel.  I still get oily but I can tell that the buildup is not as heavy as it once was. I’m confident that as I continue to use this system I will continue to see more results. After finishing up the system I am sure I will go and purchase all three products, because I am a strong believer in sticking with something that works.

Thank you all for making it through this extensive review. I hope you all enjoyed and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Talk to you all in my next post, muah!

The Wonderful Wonders of Dr. Bronner’s !

Hey Goldens!

Today I want to talk about a product that has multiple uses which is a plus for me! I’m not sure if you all have been introduced to this lovely soap, so let me let you know the wonderful wonders of Dr. Bronner’s .

This soap comes in multiple scents (the lavender scent is shown in the image above) . I am not sensitive to smells but this soap has a very light scent to it, so that it smells great without being overbearing .

It is a foaming soap which I personally like but this may be a (-) for you based off of preference.

*If you have sensitive skin then I would ask a doctor first before using because the scent and any of the ingredients may be harmful towards your skin*.

The 16 oz is about $8 -12 and can be found at HEB, Urban Outfitters, and Target. The soap also comes in a larger size which is around $12-16. If you want to try it out before committing to a large quantity, Target sells mini travel sizes for around $1-5. The cheapest I’ve seen the soap is at HEB (besides the travel mini’s), so if you can get it there then do so. Personally I’ve had the 16oz. for a while now, and even after using it in the shower and for other things I mention, I still have a good amount left. A little goes a long way with this soap!

 Makeup Remover :

I tested this buddy out when I wanted to remove a full face of makeup one night and I was extremely pleased with the results. After just one – two wipes my face was erased of majority of the makeup I used.

** I used the product to remove my eye makeup and that was a BIG NO NO! The ingredients within this product made my eyes burn like fire ,and I had to constantly rinse with water to get rid of the sting, so I only recommend using this to remove face makeup.**

Body/ Face

This soap has become a game changer when it comes to my new shower routine. Were all friends here (but a little T.M.I), so I’m going to explain how I know this soap works good with cleaning all of the dirt from your skin. I’ve always used it when in the shower but one day I wanted to soak in the tub and I used the soap to cleanse…when I tell you the entire tub was full of dirt I could not believe it! I shower/bathe everyday and I was shocked by how much dirt came off of my body. The next day I used a different body wash just to compare and the amount of dirt was extremely minimal compared to the night before. I guess it’s safe to say that this is going to be my go-to soap for cleansing because after that experience I cannot trust another brand!

I do like to use this product as a face wash although I’m not to keen on it getting in my eyes . I have used my Foreo Luna with a small dab of the soap and the amount was enough to cleanse my entire face. I rinsed the soap off without any getting in my eyes, so I would recommend using this as a face wash .

I also use this product to lather before I shave and it leaves my skin soft and bump free!

Makeup Brush Cleaner
I wanted to try this out on my makeup brushes to see if this could also be a holy grail in that area too. The results were good ,but I did not like how harsh the soap was on my brushes. Some of my brushes were somewhat stiff and not fluffy after washing, so I will stick to using the johnson and johnson baby wash on them (which I highly recommend because the soap is very gentle and leaves my brushes feeling really soft!) .

Other Uses…

The things listed above are what I typically use Dr. Bronner’s for but there are endless things you can do with this soap!

Also the soap comes in bar form and the brand sells other products like toothpaste as well! You should definitely check their products out , you won’t regret it!

Until next time Goldens , xoxo!

L’oreal Ever Curl- (sulfate free) Curl Care System Review!

(Disclaimer- I was sent a complementary package of the new  L’oreal Ever Curl system from Influenster. All opinions are my own.)

Hello Goldens! Today I’m sharing with you a curl system for all of my curly haired viewers. I’m sure we all have gone through our fair share of bad hair days and look to the heavens to seek some sort of help . I know I have ! So when I had the opportunity to try out the new L’oreal curl system I hopped on it! I’m typically someone who likes to stick to my holy grails but I’m open to trying different products.

Here is how the packaging and products look. As you can see this is a three step system of shampoo, conditioner, and sculpt and hold cream gel. The products are generous in size and smell heavenly.  I wanted to try out the sculpt and hold cream first to see if it was possible to use without having to wash and condition my hair. Typically throughout the week before I begin my day I like to dampen my hair and add any oils and cream to help moisturize my hair without needing to shampoo .

I wanted to try out the gel cream in the middle of the week when my hair was dry and needed a little pick me up. As you can see in the images above my hair was in need of moisture! Do to being an athlete I tend to sweat my hair out of its moisture when I workout ,so a daily moisturizer is needed in my hair care routine.

Since I am only using the gel cream I dampened my hair and split it into four divisions so that I can properly moisture and detangle all parts of my hair. I used two pumps of the cream for the back sections of my hair and three pumps for the front sections. The pumps for each section was different because I did not divide my hair evenly, but the amount of pumps used will depend on how thick and/or long your hair is. I would apply one pump if your not sure and then add if needed.

After evenly distributing the product throughout my hair I immediately began to see results. I was afraid that because the product read gel that my hair would be crunchy but to my surprise my hair is as soft as a cotton ball…Literally! The cream balances out the gel and helps maintain the curl pattern while still having the hair look and feel smooth and soft.

I would say that my second day hair is very dry after doing this method, which could be due to my hair needing to be washed, but If the product was just a moisturizer then my hair would not be as dry. The added gel defines the curl pattern but will sink in over time and cause dryness. So I would say that the gel-cream is good for a daily wash and go.

So now that you have seen how the gel cream is on its own let’s see how the entire collection works together .

I began by washing my hair with the shampoo provided and I noticed that it had a good lather and did not dry out my hair . After shampooing I seperated my hair and applied the conditioner evenly throughout. I then began to detangle my hair while still having the conditioner in . After detangling I like to leave the conditioner in while I shower in order for my hair to soak up the moisture.

I did notice that the conditioner is not as moisturizing as my other conditioner that I use which was a disappointment because my hair lacks moisture, but my hair did have shine which I like because it does not look dull or dry.

Once done showering I rinse the conditioner out with cold water to seal moisture into my hair . Then I followed up with my normal routine for my hair after washing it ( if you all will like to see a blog post on my routine let me know!).

I wanted to only use the products given so that I can really see how they work on their own. I used the cream-gel in my hair before styling and I proceeded to finish my routine which consists of braiding my hair in 4-8 sections and finger curling the ends .

I leave my hair braided overnight while my hair drys and in the morning I unbraid it and style it for the day.

The next morning when I I braided my hair I noticed that my hair was dry overall , especially at the ends. My curls were also not defined as they normally are when I do my normal routine. I had to dampen my hair and go into my other products in order to get the preferred style that I desired. If I try out the products again I will most likely use my other products as well to see if I get better results.

Final thoughts: I like how the cream-gel allows my hair to hold its curl but the products overall are not fit for me. I’m not sure if the products will work better on other hair textures but the products strip my hair of moisture. I also am not able to use the products on their own in order to achieve the look that I want.

I’m so glad I was able to test out these products before they go into stores! I really believe that the products have potential but just need to be tested on a variety of hair textures. For me I like my hair soft and moisturized and I would like to see this product be able to so that.

Until next time Goldens, xoxo!
